1. In what ways have I developed new knowledge, skills, or abilities in completing the above-mentioned experience?
My internship at Riverside Health allowed me to gain a strong background in leadership development, communications strategies, and designing organizational training. My contributions to the launch of the new EDGE Leadership Program have also enhanced my conceptual skill sets in the realms of emotional intelligence as well as collaborative learning. I was able to gain practical application skills in designing the interactive training elements.
Moreover, building the skills to develop and deliver a mock interview activity for the Art of Authentic Self-Promotion worked to teach me to teach others how to effectively promote their own value in a confident manner.
2. What skills or experiences from my internship will be most valuable in my future career?
The development of the Team Member Performance Review Form allowed me to apply myself in the field of organizational development. As a result of this effort, I have learned how to look for pain points in a business, in this case the pain point of employees not being adequately prepared for their yearly reviews. This will prove to be a highly beneficial experience to me in the long run for a career in policy-making, public administration, law, or consulting since it has helped me further hone the skills of needs analysis, solution formulating, and presenting them in a well-structured manner.
3. In what ways has the internship influenced your concepts of your major or your prospective career path?
My experience at Riverside solidified for me the interest I have in a profession that involves the field of communication. Observing the positive impact of strong communication principles and a well-structured training program on the internal business environment of Riverside reminded me of the passion I have for the profession of strategic communication.
Evidently, I was affirmed in the desire to be in environments where I get to develop systems, serve people, and develop strategies to effect positive change in healthcare settings, governments, or community agencies.
4. In what new career paths or roles have I discovered during the internship?
Prior to the internship, I did not realize the degree to which I would enjoy the behind-the-scenes activities of organizational training, development in the workplace, or strategies for the engagement of workers. These projects allow me to explore the possibilities of:
Organizational Development
Learning & Development (L&D)
Training in human resources & worker experience
Healthcare leadership education Communication Strategy in Healthcare Environments
5. What’s next for me professionally?
After completing this internship, I plan to continue to develop leadership skills in research, internships, and coursework. Additionally, I would like to apply the elements of Riverside to the rest of my educational program in public administration, law, policy, or community leadership. This has allowed me to realize the applicability of the skills I have learned in being able to develop programs, solve organizational issues, and lead others in their professional development. My plan going forward will involve looking for opportunities to hone these skills.
